I love jalapeño poppers, don’t you? But I have only ever made them a few times. The main reason is that I really hate deep frying foods, I always end up getting burned so I avoid it as much as possible. I really don’t know why I never attempted to bake them instead — probably because fried foods taste much better. So since making these poppers it occurred to me that I’ll never have to deep fry a popper if I don’t want to, I can make them in the oven instead.
Keeping with the Halloween theme, I want to share these fun “mummified” jalapeño poppers that I cooked for my Spicy Food column. These too were fun to prepare because it’s creative and because I don’t usually do many holiday themed recipes. The jalapeños are stuffed with a different type of cheese that is normally called for in traditional recipes. You’ll have to go check out the recipe to see what it is. To give the poppers that mummified look I used pastry dough to wrap around them and create the look. It also added a great buttery and crisp to each bite.
Enjoy these super delicious and fun jalapeño poppers!
