Sriracha Spiced Chickpeas

When it comes to snacks do you favour savoury or sweet? What about spicy flavours, how do you feel about them?

I prefer savoury snacks, and more times than not I like them to have a spicy touch. I won’t lie to you when I’m craving the salty-spicy combo I usually reach for popcorn or chips doused with hot sauce. Maybe not always the healthiest of snacks. Lately I’ve been experimenting with healthier options that I know will both satisfy a craving and leave my belly full. Today I’d like to share one of these new snacks.

I’m sure you all have heard of oven or pan roasted chickpeas as snacks. They are seriously delicious! Plus they are super easy to prepare, which is always a great thing in my book. You can pretty much add any flavour combinations (like sweet, or savoury, or spicy) and always end up with great results. For this version I used sriracha hot sauce to give the chickpeas that spicy, garlicky and touch of sweetness that sriracha naturally has. The smells coming from the kitchen were so intense and mouthwatering that my husband was lured to them from all the way in the back of the house.

This recipe also includes a couple of other ingredients that are good for your body so you won’t have any guilty feelings if you’re on a diet. Also you’ll notice that these are made right on the stovetop — though you could also pop them in the oven. Lastly, you have the option of making them slightly crispy or crunchy. I shared the recipe on my About.com column and all you have to do is click below to go get it. Enjoy!

I am making another batch today and have plans to include these little bites of yumminess in our dinner. That recipe will be up next!
