The signs of Spring have finally started appearing. This past week we saw sunshine nearly everyday and the temperatures were in the double digits — finally! I know everyone in the Northern Hemisphere is as excited as I am about the arrival of warmer weather, sunshine and all of the outdoor activities that come with the new season.
One of the things I am most looking forward to is spending time outdoors. My husband and I love going for long walks to breathe in the fresh air and see nature come back to life. The trees blossoming, wild flowers popping up in the fields, and birds chirping, it’s all very zen.
Another thing we see many people doing, and one I too like to do, is have a picnic on a green field. Usually it involves food that travels well and of course, completes the whole outdoor dinning experience. To make the cleanup minimal I always pack disposable tableware that can be disposed of in the recycling bins.
A picnic cannot be complete without a little something sweet, like this Apple Cinnamon Bread Pudding. I shared the recipe for it nearly two years ago and it is one of my favorites. My recipe is based on a Czech and Slovak bread pudding called Zemlovka, and it makes great picnic food. (click photo for recipe link)
I can’t wait to have our first picnic. And you, what are you most looking forward to this spring?
Lovely clicks! Orchids are so beautiful.
Happy Sunday!
Cheers,
Rosa
Thank you Rosa and Happy Sunday to you too!:)
Beautiful post nancy. Tho flowers are so pretty :)
Thank you Nandita!
Orchids are SO photogenic:) I love indoor flowers..especially with my long winter..Beautiful shots:)
They really are. Thanks Monique:)
Your photos of the orchids are positively ethereal. Just beautiful. Happy Spring!
Thank you Victoria, and happy spring to you too!:)
So beautiful, I love orchids!
Thank you Laura!:)
I love orchids, your photos are beautiful as always! I’m looking forward to eating outside on our balcony – something we’re doing today. And of course the fabulous produce coming into season. This is the best time of the year to live near the Med.
Thank you Holly! Enjoy your balcony and all that yummy seasonal produce — also one of my favorite things about warm weather.
Great pictures! Our weather has had temperature swings of 30 degrees F the last few days! Warm, then cold, and now warm again. Cold again in a few days, alas. But spring is definitely coming!
Sounds like our weather a few weeks ago. I do hope the warm spring days start stabilizing for you.
Beautiful snapshots!
Thank you!
Unfortunately, it is winter we are facing down here but I am thrilled for you after such a harsh winter. Your flower photos are so beautiful and ethereal and such a change from your usual moody ones. You could blow one up and make a gorgeous piece of art for the house.
Hopefully you won’t have a long and cold winter like we just did. Thank you so much Suzanne!:)
Another reader putting her hand up with thanks for the lovely, lovely orchid shots: so romantic :) ! Am still eating my lunch and High Tea outdoors in E Australia: temps in the mid-twenties . . . but shall soon begin to be envious of you :D !
Hi Eha! Enjoy your tea and hopefully your weather won’t be too bad this winter. Thanks!:)xx
I’m looking forward to lots of Zen.
Me too:)
Beautiful photos Nancy – a visit to your blog is always so enjoyable. I am looking forward to some warm weather – our spring so far has been pretty dreadful – it was snowing yesterday again. Mostly I am looking forward to a garden filled with veggies waiting for me to cook them. have a great week!
Thank you so much Donalyn! I’m sorry you’re spring has been so dreadful, I hope the snow melts and that some sunshine is coming your way. Love that you’ll have your own garden:)
I’m looking forward to fresh local berries…and the farmers’ market! And going outside without a coat! A picnic sounds wonderful, too…especially with some scrumptious bread pudding :)
Yes, I can’t wait for local berries too. Thanks sweetie:)
you are right, it’s hard to beat a picnic to really celebrate spring! eating outside, and playing in water really let my brain know that it’s getting warm again.
Aw you’re describing a perfect day of sun, beach, water and a picnic — heaven!:)
Lovely pictures! There are things I love and hate about spring in New Mexico. I love the blooming fruit trees and warmer weather, but I hate the wind. Today the wind blew so hard and kicked up so much dust that we couldn’t see the mountain. A typical spring day. Once the winds die down in May, then it’s definitely time for a picnic!
Thank you MJ! Wow, that’s crazy wind. But May is only a couple of weeks away so you can start enjoying the picnic weather.:)
Love this time of year and love your pink orchids- just lovely! Enjoy the warmer weather and have a great weekend ;-)
Thanks Patty, you too hope you’ve had a lovely weekend.
