Happy Sunday everyone! Today Talaia of the Whole Yum community will be joining us. It’s a pleasure to introduce you to her as well as a great website to submit your food photos too. Talaia will tell us all about Whole Yum as well as share some links to her healthy, whole, and delicious recipes.
Thanks Talai for the great interview and for being a Spicie Foodie sponsor!
1. Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
Hi Spicie Foodie readers! I am Talaia, and I publish the website WholeYum.com :) I am currently living in Atlanta, engrossed in my collegiate studies, and newly engaged to my mate :)
2. Now tell us what we can expect to find at Whole Yum.
One can expect to find an array of healthy recipes from myself and a few of our writers–as well as mouthwatering food photos and healthy recipe submissions from our subscribers! There is also a “features” section on the site where we post a variety of health related articles and product reviews, as well as a “contests” page where subscribers can win health and food related prizes.
3. How can fellow food bloggers join Whole Yum?
Anyone can subscribe to the site by clicking the “submit photo or recipe” link at the top of the page, and filling out the contact form. Once you’ve done that you are a subscriber.
4. Why did you start this community?
There are a few reasons! To build a community of like-minded heath enthusiasts, to get to know other food bloggers, to encourage others to adopt a healthier lifestyle, to share my thoughts, trials and tribulations on food, cooking, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, to experiment more in the kitchen, to mimic the gorgeous food photos in Bon Appetit magazine, to show that healthy eating can be a struggle, but that it doesn’t mean giving up your favorite foods.. phew!
Also, my mother is a big inspiration for WholeYum! In 2010 she was diagnosed with Cancer, and at first I was devastated and felt completely helpless, but after tons of research on what Cancer is, and what foods can impact the disease in a positive way I realized we were eating all of the wrong things and that our diet (as a family) needed a complete overhaul. I am happy to report that she is alive, and doing well, and I know that this is directly linked to her diet and peaceful state of mind.
5. Have you always been interested in food?
I have always been interested in eating food! I swear I should be 300 lbs…
6. What is your favorite dish to cook?
Fish. Especially Salmon. Lately I have been making this mushroom, spinach Alfredo penne pasta bake on the weekends. It’s really delicious :)
7. If you were going to cook a feast for guests what would it be?
Lemony Cornish hens stuffed with wild rice, yum!
8. What is your most memorable or most special kitchen moment, be it a happy or a disastrous one?
I can remember when I first started posting recipes to the site, and I felt like such a rookie. I mean in the kitchen cooking, trying to write and photograph all the the same time–stumbling over equipment, and burning things–it was hilarious :)
9. Favorite ingredient?
Curry
10. Is there anything else you’d like to share about you or Whole Yum?
Just that I feel it is important–with any healthy or unhealthy diet to find a balance. It is easy to become obsessed with eating healthy–to the point where you’re beating yourself up about a little bite of cheesecake! Remember that a little gratification is good. For instance, I had a brownie for breakfast this morning. I have not eaten a brownie in months. Hallelujah to that :)
