Sunday Snapshots: Sorrento Lemons

October 26, 2013 by Nancy Lopez-McHugh 26 Comments

Sunday Snapshots: Sorrento Lemons by @SpicieFoodie | #sorrentolemons #lemons #italian #foodphotography

Hi everyone! How’s your weekend going so far? I hope it’s going great. I couldn’t wait to publish this edition of Sunday Snapshots, so it’s coming to you a day earlier. Enjoy!:)

Today I want to share some photos of this lovely Sorrento lemon that I found at my neighborhood Italian deli. They had a big pile of these gorgeous and huge lemons that I just had to take home with me and photograph. I’ve never seen lemons this big, but apparently that is one of the characteristics of Sorrento lemons. They have a strong fragrant scent, their peel is very thick and their taste is tart. Sorrento lemons are most commonly used for making the Italian liqueur Limoncello. They are also used for making simple syrups, lemonades or an array of desserts. Unfortunately I don’t think that they are commonly found outside of Europe. But if you’re lucky and do find them, make sure to buy at least a few.

Beautiful photos. I’ve been to Sorrento and they have wonderful lemons along with many other luscious foods. In fact, I made limoncello from a cookbook I received on the Amalfi Coast. I still have bottles left that I made up last year. It was so good.

    Have a great weekend!

Wow, great shot of the Sorrento lemon – it’s huge, and how funny, I was just thinking of limoncello, too! I tried a homemade limoncello last year which was a Christmas family gift, and the recipe was included (I didn’t try it yet…)

Sorrento lemons are great! If you ever have a chance to go there, you’ll see lemon trees everywhere. Super photos (as always) – thanks.

Gorgeous pictures Nancy! I’ve never heard of Sorrento lemons so thanks for sharing! I doubt if I’ll find them in the southwestern U.S. :)
