Today we have a very special guest sharing one of his favorite dishes. It's the Scrappy Scruffy Terrier aka Panchito. Panchito is an expert when it comes to the best ways, or as he says the only way, of eating a hot dog and he asked me if he could make the world a better place by spreading his knowledge. Look at that face how can you say no? (If I said no he and his killer attack squirrel, behind him, would show me the ugly consequences.) So please help me (humor me) welcome Señor Panchito ... read more

Joanie and Chachi, A Tale of Two Cockatiels
Joanie on the left, Chachi on the right Today I'd like to introduce to you Joanie and Chachi, our two crazy Cockatiels. Since the passing of our beloved puppy things in our house haven't been the same. But thanks to these two crazy birds we have had not only the much needed distraction but a daily dose of laughs. You can also say that in a way these two chicken littles have become the therapy for our healing journey. Americans (and perhaps Canadians) will probably recognize and giggle at the ... read more

A Painful Farewell To Our Best Friend
*Disclosure* Spicie Foodie is a blog about food and that is why you are here. I never get too personal and never want to use my blog as a therapy session, after all you are here for the food. But this post is not about food but rather my humble way of honoring my best friend. It will be personal, painful and emotional. If that bothers you please come back another time. As for August's YBR it is cancelled this month. Tuesday, August 23rd will forever be one of the saddest and hardest days ... read more

Downward Facing Dog and Pain Perdu
Being gently woken up by the warm sunshine on my face followed by a little tail wagging is a great way to start the day. As soon as my scruffy Panchito hears or sees me waking from my slummer he is there ready with a tail wag and my morning hug. I sit up and reach for my glasses, then my little guy puts his paws on my lap and moves in closer for our hug. A gentle squeeze, a little kiss on his furry head and a good morning to my little man. Rain or shine, hot or cold, Panchito is there every ... read more
Flower Showers, Spring Serenade, Gourmet Greens and Tangerines
The spring sun has been playing hide and seek with us. Panchito's morning walks have been mostly cloudy with cool breezes. Not exactly the kind of weather that makes me want to get out of bed let alone go for a walk. It is May right? What's going on? Panchito leads the way on his morning walks. Sometimes he keeps us (him and I) on the same paths, other times he feels like exploring. Those walks on the same paths sometimes make me forget that I get to live in one of the most beautiful ... read more
A Mediocre Stir Fry and Why Do I Suck at Chinese Cooking?
Hi everyone, sorry I have been MIA this past week. We had new windows installed on Monday and it turned into a longer project than originally thought. We've been preparing, waiting and cleaning up the huge mess since Sunday. As you can see I was left with no extra time to answer emails, share any recipes nor visit your blogs. I am beat! But as soon as I can gather some energy I'll be playing catchup. I leave you with something I wrote a couple of weeks ago. Every time I try to cook ... read more
My Dog is a Junkie!
*Please make sure you read the warning at the end of this post.* Panchito has a problem. Well, I'll just come out and say it...he... he is ... a junkie. Yes, a furry four legged long eared scruffy junkie. Merriam-Webster dictionary defines a junkie as "a person who derives inordinate pleasure from or who is dependent on something" What is he so dependent on to achieve his inordinate pleasures you ask? It's miniature Reese's peanut butter cups. It all started innocently enough when his wonderful ... read more
Heavenly Nutella Banana Bread
Raise your hand if you love bananas, raise your other hand if you love Nutella (Hazelnut cream), now raise your two hands and one foot if you love bananas and Nutella together. Nutella and bananas go together just as dreamy as bananas and peanut butter, drool! One of our favorite snacks, lunches or even breakfast is a freshly made crepe with Nutella and banana slices (Even our scruffy terrier, Panchito, loves a few bites, what can I say this dog has good tastes.) The other day I was ... read more
A Very European Thanksgiving
I hope all of my readers in the US and Americans abroad had a lovely Thanksgiving day. I can't wait to read and look at all of the photographs that will be posted about your Thanksgiving feast. As you can see we ended up having our own little Thanksgiving dinner. This is the first Thanksgiving dinner we've had in many years. Being that it's an American (and Canadian on a different day) holiday it just seems silly for us to celebrate it in Europe. I know many expatriates have parties and ... read more
An Award, A Game and and Update
So much to cover today, first the update. So it was brought to my attention that the code to embed the badges for the YBR event were linking to the wrong page. It has been corrected and again you can find the html codes here, YBR codes. Just a clarification, the html codes are so that you can copy the html code for the badge of your choice into your blog. The codes will load the image on to your blog and when they are clicked on will direct the person to the YBR page here on Spicie Foodie. The ... read more
What do The Godfather and This Scruffy Terrier Have In Common?
What do The Godfather and this puppy, aka Scruffy Terrier, have in common? More than you may think. This Scruffy Terrier will also make you that offer you can't refuse. It is very frightening. Don't let his innocent look fool you. I've been woken up in the middle of the night by a chilling feeling -- you know when you feel something isn't quite right, it's the Scruffy Terrier sitting up on the bed. He just stares at me with a cold blank stare. What is he thinking, contemplating, or is he ... read more
A Special Treat For A Special Someone
This is Mr Panchito, our furry bundle of love. Yesterday he turned 12, a great milestone for most dogs but particularly special for him due to the expectation that he wouldn't make it to this birthday. You see in the past couple of years we have seen our scruffy, scrappy, crazy energetic terrier mix begin to wind down and have some medical issues. So needless to say my husband and I feel very blessed that our little "boy" is still here with us. Yes we call him our little boy or even our little ... read more
