Happy Sunday everyone! I can't believe that we are half way through May already. The time has blazed by with food festivals, holidays, my birthday, anniversary and even a small getaway. I've gotten a bit behind on blog work and sharing many recipes and photos with you. These photos are from a festival that happens every year in Playa Del Carmen. It is called "Guelaguetza" and it's when the flavours and culture of the State of Oaxaca come to town. (How many of you can pronounced the words? ... read more

Postcards from Playa: The Xaman-Ha Mayan Ruins
Hola amigos! Today I have a very special treat that, though you can't eat, it's a feast for your eyes. One of our favourite activities here is, of course, walking on the beach. On this walk a last minute detour away from the water lead us to the Xaman-Ha Mayan ruins. You can imagine our excitement seeing the archaeological site right before our eyes. This was the first time hubby and I have ever seen Mayan ruins. Nestled between light jungle, luxury living complexes and just ... read more
Playa’s Christmas Colours
How was everyone's Christmas holiday? I hope you all had a wonderful day. I haven't a recipe to share with you today, only some snapshots of our first holiday in Playa del Carmen. The photos were all shot during our Christmas Eve walk and our lazy Christmas Day. Enjoy and I hope they bring you a bit of warmth during the wintery December days. My husband and I have a tradition of every year picking out a new Christmas ornament for each other; along the way we've also included our precious ... read more

Pescadillas de Atun or Fried Tuna Tacos (with Video Instructions)
Go on watch the video below to see how these pescadillas come together. Enjoy or buen provecho amigos! Chances are that a majority of you have never heard of this Mexican dish -- I actually only had them for the first time after we moved back to Mexico. The first time I saw them on a menu was in the Riviera Maya and since then I've eaten them in many local restaurants here in Playa del Carmen. Each time they have been amazing and each restaurant had their own unique version of ... read more
Sunday Snapshots: Eight Pictures of The Beach
Happy Sunday amigos! It's been a while since I've shared some beach pictures and wrote a Sunday Snapshot post. Well, today I'd like to share with you these eight pictures of the beach. I am super blessed to call this magical place, Playa Del Carmen, my home. And no matter how many times I walk along the beach, it never gets old. The gentle and cooling breeze, the salty air, the sand between my toes, and the waves crashing along the shore. How could anyone grow bored of this. Never. When ... read more
Sunday Snapshots: Catching Up
I haven't share a Sunday Snapshots with you in a while, a very long while. So today I'd like to catch up on some snapshots. They are photos that I've shared on Facebook and just forgotten to also share them here. Enjoy! This stack of plates and bowls are traditional Mexican terracotta pottery. They are so simple and, I don't know why but, I love eating from them. I purchased the whole stack for $100 (Mexican Pesos), that's less than $7 USD or 6€. In other words, a super bargain. I'm going ... read more
Sunday Snapshots: A Day at The Beach
The last time we were at the beach we witnessed a pretty neat event. Though it was a bright and sunny day, we could see a storm building in the distance. Playa del Carmen (or Playa as the locals call it) faces into the east, and between us and the rest of the Caribbean lays the (Mexican) island of Cozumel. On a typical clear day you can make out many of the buildings on the island's main town, San Miguel. This day was no different, until we saw the skies begin to darken. Slowly the clouds ... read more
The Desecration of the Croissant
Croissant purist, turn away now. I have eaten some of the very best croissants in the world. And I mean croissants from the source -- ones still warm from the oven of many a Parisian bakery. Uber buttery, flaky, crunchy outer texture with soft buttery insides. Just the thought makes my mouth water. When we lived in Paris, every morning, we would go to the bakery for our breakfast croissants. One of us would make our way back home with those white paper bags filled with four golden ... read more
Jack, The Cat Who Adopted Us
Today I'd like to tell you about someone that makes me smile everyday. Jack is a very special cat, and the reason why I now call myself a dog and cat person. Jack, is a girl. Yes, the male name causes confusion but she is very much a little (furry) lady. She came to us with the adorable name and we wouldn't dream of changing it. She's Jack. Jack's a grey tabby with touches of white fur. The bit of white on her face that separates her eyes and cheeks make her look like she ... read more
Sunday Snapshots: Mayan Dancers of Founder’s Park
If you've ever been to or Googled Playa del Carmen, you'll immediately recognise the famous statue in the parque fundadores or Founder's Park. The statue is located where the park ends and it meets the beach. Under the statue is sand, a children's play area, benches, and small food stalls selling fresh fruits. It is perhaps one of the most photographed spots in Playa del Carmen. This park is one of my most favourite spots in this city I call home; There is always something interesting ... read more
Things I Loved (and Ones I Didn’t) This Week
Every once in a while I like to share things I'm currently loving, today is one of those times. But I also want to share one thing that I didn't care for this week. One thing that I really loved this week, and every week I've lived in this apartment, is the view and light from my balcony. I may not love this apartment but I do the beautiful light shadows that shine in just about everyday. Those trees look calm but it's like a small zoo out there -- more on that another ... read more

There are a couple of ways to get to Ambergris ... read more
Travel Postcards: Cancun’s Nichupte Lagoon
Playa del Carmen is essentially a suburb of Cancun, and that means day trips to the city are something we can do often. The little bit of Cancun that we have seen we like; For example the amazing Mayan Scorpion Temple ruins. Another Cancun sight we really love is the Nichupte Lagoon. The lagoon divides the Hotel Zone from the main part of the city and can be accessed via the La Isla Shopping Village. Nichupté covers over 3,000 hectares*, is made up of 7 lagoons and connects to the ... read more
Green and Yellow Salad with Grilled Serrano Peppers
We are well into the month of June and that means that the Northern Hemisphere is heating up. For those of us that live in the tropics, the mercury is really rising. Temperatures in the area have been averaging between 31°C and 34°C or 88°F and 93°F -- now that's not factoring in how much hotter it feels with the humidity. And to top it all off we're not in the hottest time of the year yet! People that have lived in Playa del Carmen longer than I have keep telling me to wait until July and ... read more
Travel Postcards: Cancun’s Scorpion Temple Mayan Ruins
On a recent day trip to Cancun we stumbled upon the remains of a Mayan temple. I don't know Cancun like I know my city (Playa del Carmen) so I can't tell you the name of the beach where the temple is located. What I can tell you is that the ruins are across from the "La Isla" shopping centre (in the hotel zone) and right on the beach. The temple is perched up on a hill, with ancient steps leading to the top. After following the winding path and up the stairs we were met with these amazing ... read more
From Prague to Paris to Paradise
Hola amigos! How is everyone doing? Great I hope. I want to apologise for my absence and lack of new recipes, but there is a good excuse. After a couple years of (quietly) planning these past several months have been super busy and exciting for my husband and I. So much has been happening that wow, where do I begin... Na shledanou Praha! As many of you may be aware, the golden city of Prague (in the Czech Republic) is where I made my home for some years. Living in a fairytale-like city ... read more
Sunday Snapshots: A Food Festival and Other Yummy Foods
Happy Sunday amigos! On this edition of Sunday Snapshots I want to share just a few photos of the food we've been enjoying since arriving in our Mexican paradise. But before we get to the yummy food pics I want to thank you. Your sweet comments and well wishes regarding our move, from Europe to Mexico, made both my husband and I smile. We are super excited and it's going to be great sharing our adventure with you. (Please excuse the not-so-great quality of the photos; they were shot on a ... read more
