Potato and Yellow Split Pea Curry

Potato and Yellow Split Pea Curry Recipe (Vegan with Meat Option) by Spicie Foodie

Curry is ultimate winter comfort food. Many people think it can be difficult to make, but it really isn’t. One of the amazing things about curry is that you can use pretty much whatever is in your kitchen to cook into this healthy stew. For this recipe I used potatoes and some yellow split peas. The curry ended up being vegan and it fully satisfied our curry craving.

  3. I know what you mean. I worked one day last week and I was away before that so I’ve been delaying going to work this morning. Returning to real life is hard sometimes. :)

This healthy, comforting curry would be just the thing I need to get me going. Happy New Year, Nancy!

  4. Delicious curry dish…I think I would devour the whole bowl of it…the pictures are so beautiful Nancy.
Happy 2013 and have a great week ahead!

  5. I can imagine it would be hard to get motivated when it’s cold and raining outside. Fortunately I don’t have that problem and since I have just had two weeks holiday from work, I have been able to completely change up my blog and now feel quite motivated. But the sunshine helps heaps.

  6. A lovely warming dish I could easily eat without any accompaniments at all ! Loved the photography also: well, when don’t I on this blog :) !

  7. I totally know what you mean. This time of year is tough for me. The dark in the morning when I leave for work, and dark in the evening when I get home zaps my energy. I too, just want to curl up and read. I’d love to do that with this soup for lunch. Spring will come soon. :)

  8. I hear you. I took about 10 days off but my kids being off from school is actually more work for me and I am not sure if I had rest… lol. Now it’s time to catch up but it’s been a little hard. The cold weather, being sick, and lack of motivation (and it’s beginning of year too!). Hope we can cheer up each other. Well you did with this delicious looking curry! ;) I remember you said you love potatoes. Me too and so happy seeing a big chunk in this curry.

  9. We are all curry lovers here at home but my repertoire is quite limited. This recipe is so apt for now when we have all overdosed on meat in the holidays. Lovely dish, Nancy.

  10. All I need is this curry and a bowl of brown rice… and I’m set. I have been working on a lot of fun food these first few days of the year… I guess I’m trying to make up to my family after we all got sick over Christmas. I do need to throw some healthier curries back into my diet.. otherwise it will not be a good year for my waistline. :)

  11. HI, your curry sure look very tempting and awesome. Excellent pictures, very well taken and lovely presentation. Nice to eat with french loaf.

    Have a nice day.

  13. It got so cold last week that I did sit around with a cup of hot tea or soup and read a good book! What a way to spend time off! This curry warms me up just looking at it. I can taste it and smell it looking at those beautiful pictures!

  14. Gave this wonderful curry a go last night and I wasn’t disappointed! Unfortunately there’s no fresh coriander available in Slovakia at the moment. *Sob!* But we squeezed some lemon juice over the top instead and it was just divine. Thanks for sharing such a great recipe. And your photographs are simply stunning! :)

    1. Hi Koren,
Thank you, and glad to hear you enjoyed the curry. Lemon is a fantastic addition — I’ll try that next time. Thanks for stopping by!:)

  15. Third time that i have cooked and enjoyed this receipe, it is now a firm family fave, made from everything you should have in the store cupboard!! well done you!

  16. I am confused. In the health benefits section you refer to cilantro, but the recipe does not contain this ingredient. Was there an omission in the recipe?

  17. I’m trying this recipe right now as we speak, it’s simmering.ewwww lala it is deliciono. I did add in the lemon because I read your constructive critics. I also added a 1 small smoke turkey kneck and I didn’t want to waist my celery so I added 2 1/2 strips. THEY MAKE GREAT VEGETABLE STOCK OR BROTH. Thanks!

  18. Made this for tea and my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed this super curry.Absolutely delicious and will definitely be making this again.Thank you so much for sharing this recipe
