How Not To Choose A Giveaway Winner

This is a behind the scenes look at how the giveaway winner was chosen. Thank you to all of the giveaway participants. The winner will be revealed at tomorrow’s YBR roundup. In the meantime I leave you with some tips for your next giveaway.

The idea was to have a or your own Cockatiels pick out a name from the eligible participants list.

Fold up the name papers into small enough piece to make it easier for Cockatiels to pickup.

blank
Place the Cockatiels next to the folded papers. This is were 2 Cockatiels are better than 1, incase one chooses to fly away.

blank
Allow the Cockatiel to meditate on which paper to pick up. If that doesn’t work, bribe them with special seeds.

blank
Still not cooperating? Perhaps it would be better to move to familiar surroundings. Trick them by placing a small saucer on their cage as though it was their special treat of the day. Step back and give them some room…Hopefully 10 minutes later one will make a move to investigate.

blank
Well hello there my cute feathered friend. Do you need a lift to the saucer? Ouch!! You meaning stop pecking! Fine I’ll go away.

blank
Place a trail of seeds and step back again…Wait for it…The Cockatiel is getting closer and, Dang it! It prefers a seed instead of paper.

blank
Back to waiting another 10 minutes. Tick-tock tick-tock, I got dinner to make birds! “Lady you can’t tell us what to do! I’m my own bird, so step off.” If your stunt Cockatiels are as stubborn and opinionated as these 2 little rascals, then you’ll have to resort to different methods.

This is were Random.org comes in handy. Perhaps that’s were you should have started. Hmm..

blank
Count the participants and without opening/unfolding the papers write down a number on each folded paper.

blank
Nifty Random.org will generate a number for you.

blank
Look for the winning generated number on the pile of folded papers…

Found it. Now really annoy the participants by telling them the winner will be revealed at tomorrow’s YBR roundup. See you then!

P.S.
Please don’t laugh at my horrible handwriting. I blame it on lack of practice due to keyboard use. Thank you!

  1. What a fun way to have a giveaway – too bad they didn’t cooperate. I’ve been so busy I forgot to enter my YBR. I guess it’s too late isn’t it? If so, I’ll try to send it in next month.

    Pretty birds!

  2. I don’t think my dogs would do much better, I thought maybe your babies would have eaten the paper, lol. I have a give-away too and I would be happy to ship it, if you didn’t mind waiting for it? This is so cute. Hope you are off to a great week. I’m finally shaking off the holiday sluggishness.

    1. Gina, I think our pets are smarter than we give them credit. They get smart and say no way I’m not doing that, do it yourself :) A give-away for whom? Thanks, so far so good. Hope yours is also going well.

  3. LOL, what a hilarious post! My brother-in-law has a pair of cockatiels too, and I was observing them last weekend. They NEVER actually do what you want them to, but this is a pretty good try on your part, Nancy!

Can’t wait till the announcement :).
