Summer’s Sundays are meant to be spent doing the things you love. Be it spending time with your family, going for a walk or simply enjoying a lazy day off with some of your favorite foods.

One of my most favorite lazy day activity is sitting down with a good book. An occasional glass of a nice red wine doesn’t hurt either.

If I get hungry and want a light summertime snack nothing satisfies me more than fresh juicy berries.

Throw in a slice or two of my favorite Czech caraway bread and I’m complete.

This little old book you see above is one of my most cherished possessions. I found it in a bookstore a long time ago and it has traveled and been by my side ever since.

It’s pages have started to turn yellow and the binding has begun cracking. It has that smell that old books have. A smell that speaks to my heart. A smell that makes me fantasies about the people, the eyes and hands that looked at and held it before landing in mine.

The stories are well below my reading level, but that doesn’t matter. What matters is that on a hot and lazy summer day it makes a great companion.

Tell me what is your favorite lazy summer activity?

Happy Sunday everyone! Tomorrow we kick off a very special month of celebrations, see you then.

  1. Beautiful photos! I can only imagine the taste of that caraway bread – must be wonderful! In a day or 2 I am going to make my own caraway bread, which I call “German” :-), with rye flour, whey and whole farro seeds. I wish I could try the Check one. And I think my favorite lazy summer activity would be sitting somewhere by the lake, also with a book and a bowl of berries :-)

  2. What an amazing set of photos!!! They epitomize my Sunday :-) In fact, I’ve been reading all day today, when it’s 100 F outside and as humid as in Russian sauna. Instead of blueberries I have fresh raspberry and peaches….Delicious!

  3. Poetry in photography…. beautiful job! I am having a lazy (but not great) Sunday. Just trying to get things done… but not really getting anything done. My perfect lazy Sunday is getting some spicy take out and a load of romantic comedies to watch on the TV…. :)

  4. Summer Sundays are different to winter ones. At the moment we are hunkered down against the cold and my favourite Sunday is to stay at home all day, baking and blogging.
We studied so much Shakespeare at school that few of us consider it Sunday reading material – unfortunately because he was a marvellous writer.

  5. I can’t believe it: I too have the book, would you believe given as a prize in far ago High School! Besides cooking [and reading and a hundred other things – am a Gemini: what do you expect :) ! ] my favourite Sunday activity is spending the day in the garden working with all my flowers, vegetables and herbs – so soothing and so productive!!

  6. How do blueberries pair with wine? I don’t think I’ve ever tried it.

Reading a book with a glass of wine, preferably rosé, is my favorite summer Sunday activity too.

  7. Gorgeous images, and so pleased to learn you’re a fellow book-sniffer! How to explain the magic of the smell of old books to someone like my husband, who insists I should be converted to Kindles? I think you either get it or you don’t. Glad you do! :-)

    1. Are you kidding, the smell of old books or even better a book store full of old books is heaven to me. As a fellow book-sniffer I’m sure you’ve been to Shakespeare and Company in Paris. That is my all time favorite store of any kind. You know I’m so conflicted because I can’t give up real book but I do love technology.

Thanks Ruby and glad to see there are fellow book-sniffers out there:)

  8. I don’t get to have much relaxing/lazy time but I would love to read a book if I have. Lately I’m so tired with kids at home and summer activities that I barely have time for a book or any slow time. Your story made me long for some getaway and relax…. That book is wonderful and really cool. I never own a book that I love and keep. But your story made me wish to have one that I always go back to. :-)

  9. Beautiful post-makes me want to relax with a bowl of blueberries, a favorite lovingly used book and a glass of red wine right now;-) Gorgeous photos my dear, you’re always an inspiration;-)ps, I won’t forget the bread!

  10. With the heat at full blast outside, curling up inside (where the air is cool!) with a great book is definitely my idea of a good time =)

  11. I love lazy summer sundays. I make an effort to go totally offline on Sundays, to unwind with family. The color pops so sweetly off your pictures Nancy! Have a fab weekend!
