Since people all over the US and some parts of Mexico are gearing up for Cinco de Mayo fiestas, I thought I'd share 58 Mexican recipes to get the party started. Because I now live in Mexico it will be very interesting for me to see how the real locals in Playa observe the holiday -- that's if at all. I'll report back if we end up attending a fiesta at the city's main square. If you like historical movies and would like to know what the holiday is really about (it's not Mexico's ... read more

Sunday Snapshots: Beach Stroll
Sunday Snapshots is coming one day early, and we're going on a beach stroll. The photos were snapped with my phone camera and within a 20 minute timeframe. Enjoy the photos and quotes. To those celebrating Easter: have a great holiday! Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. –Johann Wolfgang von Goethe You don't have to think about love; you either feel it or you don't. ― Laura ... read more
Sunday Snapshots: Things I love This Week #2
Happy Sunday! Today I would like to share some of the foods and things I loved this past week. Enjoy!:) This corn cake is not only something I loved eating this past week, but also one of my favourite foods ever! I always purchase it at my favourite coffee/chocolate cafe in town, Ah Cacao. This time I washed it down with a cafe latte -- I drink my coffee without sugar. The cake is sweet but not too sweet, it's airy, creamy and dense like a cheesecake but with corn undertones. There is no ... read more
(Mostly) Wordless Wednesday: Lately
Happy Wednesday! I would like to share only photos today, no recipe. These pictures are of things I’m enjoying lately. A few I’ve already shared on my Social Media accounts, but I didn’t want you to miss out on them. Hubby bought some Mexican sweet bread called conchas for his breakfast, I made hot chocolate. Coconut oil is a new obsession. Have you used it? Spices. I could not exist without them. These are about to be made into Sri Lankan curry spice ... read more
Sunday Snapshots: New Foods In My New Home
Happy Sunday amigos! Today I will be sharing a few snapshots of foods from my new home. Enjoy! After a little sunbathing we stopped for a snack; we started out with a couple of Dos XX or Dos Equis beers. (The beer is pronounced dose-EH-keys.) It isn't a new beer to me, but it is the first time I've enjoyed one on the beach. Nearly all restaurants and cafes bring their guest freshly made chips, called totopos, and their house salsas. Habanero peppers are king here so, one of ... read more
Caribbean Yellowtail Snapper: Cooked with coconut oil, serrano peppers, garlic and served with corn tortillas
Our last months in Prague were a whirlwind of activity with preparations for our move to Mexico. Those busy weeks my time in the kitchen was limited to quick breakfasts or the occasional dinner. Our days started early and ended very late; you can imagine that gathering the energy to cook was a difficult task for me. Luckily we were able to rely on great cafes and restaurants in the (old) neighbourhood to nourish us. The last time I cooked a real dinner was two months ago. You know, one that ... read more
Sunday Snapshots: A Food Festival and Other Yummy Foods
Happy Sunday amigos! On this edition of Sunday Snapshots I want to share just a few photos of the food we've been enjoying since arriving in our Mexican paradise. But before we get to the yummy food pics I want to thank you. Your sweet comments and well wishes regarding our move, from Europe to Mexico, made both my husband and I smile. We are super excited and it's going to be great sharing our adventure with you. (Please excuse the not-so-great quality of the photos; they were shot on a ... read more
From Prague to Paris to Paradise
Hola amigos! How is everyone doing? Great I hope. I want to apologise for my absence and lack of new recipes, but there is a good excuse. After a couple years of (quietly) planning these past several months have been super busy and exciting for my husband and I. So much has been happening that wow, where do I begin... Na shledanou Praha! As many of you may be aware, the golden city of Prague (in the Czech Republic) is where I made my home for some years. Living in a fairytale-like city ... read more
